Global Outreach

At the global level, the Global Women’s Institute (GWI) participates in key international, inter-governmental forums where help inform and shape important policy discussions on women’s empowerment and violence against women and girls. These include the UN Commission on the Status of Women (where GWI annually co-convenes events); the Human Rights Council; the Sexual Violence Research Initiative (SVRI); and the Association for Women in Development (AWID) Forums.

GWI attends regional and national level workshops where we lend our expertise to help shape policy and programming, drawing on our lessons from around the world, linking evidenced based research to programming, with an emphasis on what works.

GWI also participates in the international 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence Campaign each year. The 16 Days of Activism is an annual, international campaign (November 25-December 10) to raise awareness about gender-based violence. GWI commemorates the 16 Days each year with a series of events which in the past have included panel discussions, report launches, film screenings, and days of student activism and service.
