Brisa de Angulo
Brisa de Angulo is a survivor of childhood sexual assault. She chose to prosecute her perpetrator, and has taken her court all the way to the InterAmerican Court of Human Rights which, in 2023, ruled that the Government of Bolivia was responsible for the violation of Brisa’s due process and human rights.
Nicaraguan Ex-Political Prisoners
On February 9, 2023, 33 Nicaraguan women political prisoners were released from prison, expelled from Nicaragua and stripped of their nationality, property and citizenship rights. They had been detained for their non-violent protests against the repression of the dictatorial regime.
Pramila Jayapal (Congresswoman, D-WA)
In the aftermath of September 11, 2001, Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) founded OneAmerica, originally the Hate Free Zone Campaign, to stand up to the increasing prevalence of hate crimes against immigrant communities.
