Conflict & Crisis
Violence against women and girls (VAWG) is a pervasive problem around the world that frequently intensifies further in times of armed conflict, state instability, or humanitarian crisis.
Country- & Community-led Approaches
Violence against women exists in every country in the world and spans educational, economic, and cultural divisions. Violence comes in many forms, and is most frequently inflicted by family members or partners, but it also happens at the hands of strangers or authority figures. Not only is violence against women a violation of universal human rights, it also poses severe health, economic, and social consequences for individuals, families, and ultimately, for society. GWI designs effective and ethical data collection methodology; works with local leaders to modify and implement research projects; and trains new researchers on how best to gather data.
Girls & Adolescents
According to the United Nations, there are 62 million girls missing from classrooms.
Building Leadership
The Global Women’s Institute (GWI) is working across campus to prepare the next generation of leaders with a commitment to promoting gender equality and violence prevention.
